I love it when friends and family introduce me to great new and inventive brands. Web guru Jed from http://www.eyedea.com.au/ recently introduced me to Grovemade. Grovemade is a Portland, Oregon company who make amazing handcrafted goods from natural materials primarily for apple products. Their small workshop is home to a family of designers, craftspeople, and support staff working together toward innovation and design that turns heads. Working in collaboration with renowned minimalist designer Stefan Andren, Grovemade has recently released the Wood Watch. Usually when we see wooden components in a watch they are just replacing what would normally be a stainless steel part, it's a fashion trend not a holistic approach. It seems Grovemade have really thought about this piece and wanted to convey the essence of their company into a wearable accessories line. These cool and crafty people chose to work with the materials they love, start from scratch and bring us something truly beautiful.
In a world so focused on smart watches with features and functions that can do almost anything, this watch has been stripped back to the bones. It is focused on simplicity and does only two things, tell the time and look beautiful. Minimalistic, elegant and earthy this really is more of a statement piece than a watch. Featuring modern, circular hands that move behind the iconic wooden face the material-driven Wood Watch features a stainless steel casing , Japanese movement and is finished with a vegetable-tanned leather or silicone strap. This watch is all about natural materials and is available in Eastern Hardrock Maple or Oregon Claro Walnut. The Wood Watch face is offered in round or square, and with a black leather or black silicone strap for walnut faces and a tan leather or a natural tooling leather strap for maple faces.
