"Buying Active Wear in my Active Wear" is a line from a Skit Box parody that rings pretty true. Athleisure, Active Wear, tight as hell Gym Pants or whatever you want to call them are killing skinny Jeans faster than it takes me to try and squeeze into them. With an estimated $83 Billion dollars speculated to be spent by 2020 on the latest lifestyle gear this is a trend the watch industry must embrace. For me in this category it's all about balance and the company handstanding on the balance beam is Alpina.
Alpina and Swiss brand MMT have teamed up to release the Comtesse Horological Smart Watch. The MMT AL-281 module featured inside the watch case allows the user to track different activities such as exercising and sleep, as well as receiving call and email notifications, all this linked through the MMT-365 app on the user’s phone. This is where the balance I appreciate so much comes into play. So often it's either fitness or communication but with the Comtesse you get both. The four new versions in the Comtesse Collection have a 36mm fiberglass casebody are lightweight and highly shock- resistant.
So what does it do? Here is the mega list of features!
Notifications: This feature sends you a notification whenever you receive an email or as calls from your contact numbers.
Activity Tracking: Keep track of daily steps, calories burned, and total distance.
Sleep Monitoring: Wear the watch at night or put it under the pillow to record the sleep pattern. (um hello so smart!) A sleep tracking function provides details on how much time you spent in deep sleep, light sleep, or awake.
Always On-Time & Date: You never have to set a time and date – traveling across time zones, the Horological Smartwatch picks up the time from your smartphone and displays new time automatically.
Sleep Cycle Alarm: Set a smart sleep alarm that will help you to wake up at the best appropriate time in your sleep cycle so that you wake up refreshed.
Get-Active Alerts: Set an alert to remind you to move if you’ve been idle for a set amount of time; you can customize your Get Active Alerts directly through the MMT-365 app.
Dynamic Coaching: Receive suggestions, tips, and information catered specifically to you based on your activity and sleep goals.
Cloud back-up and restore: Recover all of your data, even if you lose your watch or phone. The Horological Smartwatch independently stores your activity and sleep for 30 days without having to synchronize it to your smartphone. A great way to collect and keep your data on-the-go!
Worldtimer 24 time zones: Frequent traveler? Keep track of your hometown’s time by simply entering your city into the app. You’ll always be able to know instantly when is the ideal time to call your loved ones or business partners back home.
The Comtesse is due to hit Aussie shores soon and you can learn more about it by visiting alpinawatches.com/ or contacting Lion Brands on (03) 9572 9820. As I write this piece sitting in my Active Wear (truth) and learning about the innovation watch companies like Alpina are taking to stay relevant to the market, I am so happy that it is the Athleisure trend we are following and not Male Rompers. Just saying!
One of the first watches I ever reviewed was the original MisFit Shine. A simplistic activity tracker with lots of fun features I had a blast trying it out and it seems so did everyone else. With an ever increasing following MisFit Wearables have released the Shine 2 with a few notable upgrades. Who doesn't love upgrades?
The first thing that struck me about the Shine 2 was the rose gold, right on trend it add's a sense of lux to the overall look. The Shine 2 is also available in sexy carbon black. The second thing is the new clasp, the original shine was a bit prone to popping out unexpectedly. The new clasp is much more reliable and I have had no issues at all except when it was on my shoe playing footy, not really the Shines fault it was more to do with my poor kicking ability! Other new features are the new coloured lights with the white indicating 12, purple lights the minutes, and green lights the hours. The red lights show your goal progress which you once again set using the MisFit app. As with the original Shine I am not a huge fan of the watch aspect of the tracker, the glanceabilty is average but they have attempted to make it easier to read and dazzle you with sparkly lights. I am dazzled!
I love new features and here are my favs:
The Link App: You have options to assign the double and triple tap options of the device. With the triple tap you can pick options like Selfie button, Music Remote and Presentation Clicker to name a few, you can only assign one option but can change at anytime with the new link app.
Vibration Alerts: As I am the most hopeless person in the world in finding my phone in my bag this is particularly useful. This clever device lets you know when you receive a call or text and you can also program it give you a vibrational nudge when you’ve been inactive for a while, it is much more responsive than its predecessor. The device also linked to my alarm in the morning and vibrated as the alarm went off. It's like a extra kick to get out of bed!
Sleep Monitor: One of the best features of the Shine is the sleep monitor. Scary accurate it now gives you options to link to your Beddit monitor also available from MisFit which gives exceptional insight into sleep cycles and quality by measuring respiration, heart rate, movement, snoring, (OMG, thank goodness I don't snore) and ambient sound.
Durability: Okay so I accidently put it through the washing machine again and it came out totally unscathed! An unexpected but worthwhile test, this is one tough little cookie. The Shine 2 is definitely durable enough to withstand any sporting or lifestyle activities you can throw at it. It is 50m water resistant so yes you can swim in it and it is made from aircraft-grade aluminium with glass reinforced polycarbonate.
The wearable market is ever increasing with watch companies having to jump on board or risk getting left behind. You know that MisFit have not only hit a home rush but bashed that sucker out of the park when a gigantic watch group like FOSSIL pay $260 Million to bring you into the fold. Fossil will be introducing the MisFit tech into their ranges in the next season which is extremely exciting!
The MisFit Shine 2 is compatible with both iPhone and Android and is an extremely affordable stylish activity tracker with fantastic tech inside. With a battery life of up to six months no charging is necessary so it is lifestyle convenient. Available from $139.95 visit http://misfit.com/ for more information.
There are a lot of smart watches that end up on my desk and with each one I am always looking for a point of difference. For the regular readers of my blog you would know that no matter how amazing the functionality of this new breed of watch is, if it is fugly I will have no part of it. Vain you might say I like to think of it as fashionably sensitive! RUNTASTIC known for their integration of health, fitness and lifestyle, recently sent me their new RUNTASTIC MOMENT CLASSIC to road test.
So let's just clear the elephant in the room, "RUNTASTIC" worst name ever, the phrase lame springs to mind, maybe the test group was tired that day. So for the purpose of this review so I don't want to stab myself in the eye lets just call it the RT, I can live with that. If you can get past the name the RT is actually pretty cool. I am a fan of the combination of analogue watches and fitness trackers. They are not really smart watches but more of a connector to lifestyle. Not everyone wants to read a tiny email on their watch or have lights flashing every time someone rings but they still want the convenience of an all in one product. The RT is connected convenience. Its an activity tracker that's well styled, well priced and has a plethora of app options.
The RT CLASSIC is your suit and tie tracker, it's something you would be quite happy wearing to work. With it's rose gold case and leather band it is for the person who want's to track their fitness through their work day. I am unsure if you would actually use it for hard core sport, there are plenty of other options in the RT range including the GPS and ORBIT which are more suitied to this. It tracks your daily steps, active minutes, calories burned and even your sleep, it also doubles up as a traditional analog watch with alarm functions too. I really like the progress indicator on the clock-face, it reveals the progress towards your daily goal (e.g. 10,000 steps) at one glance which is synced up to the official and available RT app itself. The official app RT Me is where you can see all your results, change your settings, and even purchase more products and apps, there are over 20 apps ranging from mountain biking to nutrition depending on which RT model you have. There is no charging necessary as it has a long lasting lithium battery and is waterproof up to 100m. For the of RRP $279.95 you are getting the styling of an Armani or Boss with all your tracking built in. That's pretty good point of difference.
