What's your idea of a perfect holiday? Mine involves pure relaxation, a few adventures and plenty of cocktails. The Pacific has always called to me with it's culture, it's tranquillity and it's smile, it is simply perfect. I love finding new brands that marry things I love with thoughtfulness, design, difference and style. Pacific Standard Time Company is one of those brands. They produce watches using materials from various regions around the largest body of water in the world… The Pacific Ocean and with every watch capture the artistry and culture within that area.
The first watch created by PSTC is the “Oceania”. It pays homage to the cultures that created modern action sports today, the Pacific Islands. They have captured not only the culture and feel of Hawaii but broadened their scope to unite all three bodies of the Islands, Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia. Captured around the bezel of the Oceania is the faint tattoo warrior imagery of Palau, Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji and within the face of the watch, is the beautiful tonal imagery of Latte Stones from Guam and the weave tattoo that bonds (unites) everything together. It is a watch made to share a culture, a story and a lifestyle.
Crafted from the beautiful exotic woods of Hawaii for Oceania the first two colours are made from Koa Wood and Milo Wood which are harvested from fallen trees. Both woods were only allowed to be used by the Hawaiian Ali’i (monarchy), High Chiefs, and warriors. Koa Wood served as a great importance to the islands when King Kamehameha the Great conquered Maui, Oahu, Molokai, Kauai, and Lanai ending all wars and unifying Hawaii as one kingdom. These woods are extremely dense and durable, making them strong enough for weapons and war canoes and tough enough for these amazing watches.
What is truly unique about a PSTC timepiece is its 10ATM water resistancy. These guys have created the world’s first water-resistant wooden watch capable of withstanding 100 meters in depth! That's pretty special. It not only captures the essence of the Pacific but it is practical for living in it. The watch comes complete with an original casing design, sapphire crystal window, stainless steel inner case back, stainless steel inner housing, wooden case back, custom hands, luminous hands, and Swiss Ronda 5030.D chronograph movement. RRP is $499.99 USD but pre order will be starting in late March early April for $165 USD which is a killer price! Follow PSTC on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the loop and be the first to own one of these truly unique pieces. For more information visit http://www.pacificstandardtimecompany.com/

The team at Watches2U http://www.watches2u.com/ have put together a great little piece for us watch fanatics on product placement in the movies featuring the hardest working, best placing and most ubiquitous brands in film. As awards season hit's us it's great to have a little insight into the behind the scenes world of watches in movies.
The most prestigious award that Watches2U have created is the ‘Michael Bay Award’ for most products placed in a film. Named after the director who has dedicated his career to financing his many explosions and special effects by cramming as many products into his films possible. This year’s award goes to Entourage, which outdid Bay himself by including over sixty product placements into its running time. If anyone left this movie with a strange urge to go shopping, now you know why.
Watches2U of course had to reward the best product placement of a watch in a movie. Fighting off stiff competition from the Tissot in Mission Impossible and Hamilton from The Martian, the winner was Omega for its scene stealing performance in Spectre. James Bond himself won the 'walking billboard' award. This is to recognise the super-spy’s sterling and unflinching efforts when it comes to product placement.
As the microphone descends quickly into the stage and the orchestra swells I shall keep you no longer here is the list of all the Watches2U winners!
There are a lot of smart watches that end up on my desk and with each one I am always looking for a point of difference. For the regular readers of my blog you would know that no matter how amazing the functionality of this new breed of watch is, if it is fugly I will have no part of it. Vain you might say I like to think of it as fashionably sensitive! RUNTASTIC known for their integration of health, fitness and lifestyle, recently sent me their new RUNTASTIC MOMENT CLASSIC to road test.
So let's just clear the elephant in the room, "RUNTASTIC" worst name ever, the phrase lame springs to mind, maybe the test group was tired that day. So for the purpose of this review so I don't want to stab myself in the eye lets just call it the RT, I can live with that. If you can get past the name the RT is actually pretty cool. I am a fan of the combination of analogue watches and fitness trackers. They are not really smart watches but more of a connector to lifestyle. Not everyone wants to read a tiny email on their watch or have lights flashing every time someone rings but they still want the convenience of an all in one product. The RT is connected convenience. Its an activity tracker that's well styled, well priced and has a plethora of app options.
The RT CLASSIC is your suit and tie tracker, it's something you would be quite happy wearing to work. With it's rose gold case and leather band it is for the person who want's to track their fitness through their work day. I am unsure if you would actually use it for hard core sport, there are plenty of other options in the RT range including the GPS and ORBIT which are more suitied to this. It tracks your daily steps, active minutes, calories burned and even your sleep, it also doubles up as a traditional analog watch with alarm functions too. I really like the progress indicator on the clock-face, it reveals the progress towards your daily goal (e.g. 10,000 steps) at one glance which is synced up to the official and available RT app itself. The official app RT Me is where you can see all your results, change your settings, and even purchase more products and apps, there are over 20 apps ranging from mountain biking to nutrition depending on which RT model you have. There is no charging necessary as it has a long lasting lithium battery and is waterproof up to 100m. For the of RRP $279.95 you are getting the styling of an Armani or Boss with all your tracking built in. That's pretty good point of difference.
